"Good art is real art, and real art is an extension of you.” — R. “Mastro” Mastrolonardo (My high school art teacher)
Sometimes a moment reveals a hidden surprise. I try to capture that feeling in my paintings. A challenge for me in doing this is how to convey an ethereal feeling of that moment or experience without cluttering up the communication with too much visual specificity or concreteness. I am developing my style toward this goal, so you'll see some changes over time. More recently, I am using broken or fuzzy boundaries and colors to help soften the boundaries of reality. I find that this can help convey some sense of movement over time, time dilation, dreamlike qualities, or scintillation. This moves in the direction of experience drawn out through time.
While many of my paintings are inspired by a specific such moment or memory in a place and time, I also hope you can experience each painting in your own way and with your own interpretation. That is one reason that my titles are broad and, with some exceptions, not geographically specific. I am always interested to hear how a painting feels to you, so please send me a note if you have a thought to share.
